Sound design for a light installation
The journey

The initial idea for this project was simple: to make the CT scan experience less intimidating and fatiguing for children at the Sant Joan de Déu hospital.

To achieve this, we designed and built a large "lamp" that displayed a light mapping. Sound played a crucial role in the narrative: nearly half of the children wouldn't see the lamp (since many CT scans focus on the upper body, with the machine covering the head). Instead, they would experience the room filling with colors and hearing the soundscape.

The sound design served two purposes: first, to create a calm ambiance that would distract the children and help them focus on the sensory experience rather than the medical test. Second, it was designed to tell a story: a journey from 12,000 meters above sea level to 12,000 meters below the ocean. In this experience, every five seconds represented 1,000 meters of travel. The foley sounds were meticulously researched and carefully placed to correspond with the wildlife and environments encountered during this hypothetical journey.
