Sound design for a physical interactive installation
El Bosc is an interactive and immersive installation created for the Sant Joan de Déu Children's Hospital in Barcelona, designed to bring the city’s nearby forests to children staying in the hospital. Featuring five screens and five interaction points, the installation allowed participants to engage with and influence the virtual forest environment.
The sound design aimed to recreate the natural elements of the forest within the hospital while providing a calming and immersive auditory experience in the hall where the installation was located. Distinct soundscapes represented the ambiance of day, twilight, and night, reflecting the dynamic life of local forests during these periods. These sounds were carefully captured during field recording trips to nearby ecosystems, including Collserola and Montseny.
In addition to recreating nature, the sound design added a magical touch to elevate the forest’s atmosphere, making the interactive elements more engaging and rewarding. The entire experience was delivered through a 5.0 surround audio system, ensuring an immersive sound experience.
